I've read in a book, that it isnt required to be Airborne/Air Assasult certified to go to RS.
How often does this occur?

well, its all going to depend on the unit your in and what the state has money for at that time. a usually guaranteed way to get ranger school is be an officer and branch infantry. Other wise a long range surveillance unit or recon unit will get more slots to send you to ranger school. you dont have to be airborne or aa to go.
