Before I make my final decision, I wanted to check all my options. Guard or Reserve. Is the Guard hurting for people???

Granted I may not be exactly what recruiters are looking for. I'm not a young 18 year old straight out of high school. I'm middle aged prior service just looking to serve their country again. I talked to an Army Reserve recruiter. They pretty much showed me the door. I talked to an Army National Guard recruiter and they were all over me. Ready to get me a waiver and sign me up. Army Reserves pretty much said "you're not eligible, but thank you for your interest". Does the Army National Guard need of people that bad or did I hit an Army Reserve recruiter on a bad day?

Well first of all I would like to thank you for wanting to serve again. As for your question you may have caught the Reserve Recruiter on a bad day, unfortunately. As for the National Guard, I believe us a whole would like to help as many people either join the Guard for the 1st time or welcome those back who would like a 2nd chance.
There have been times where I was given a referral from the Army Reserve Recruiter where prior service people were discharge honorably and still needed a waiver to get back in for the Army Reserve. Sometimes there are waivers or discharges that the Reserve can’t get approved and the Guard can. This is based on very similar policies but yet different. If that makes any sense to you, I hope it does.

So what you are saying is that its easier to enlist into the Guard? I am willing to do anything it takes at this point:confused:
