I'm 39 years old and will be 40 in Feburary 09. When I was 20 years old I entered the USCG and after 10 days received an entry level seperation. RE3L Code JBA, ELS Uncharacterized. The primary reason for this discharge is when I was doing the in processing at Cape May, I admitted that when I was 16 years old I had thoughts of suicide. I don't remember a lot of the details of my discharge, it was a long time ago. I do have the long form of my DD214.
I would like to enlist in the ARNG (AZ). In addition to the RE3L for the USCG, there are some other factors that may limit me. If you can possibily let me know if I'm wasting my time or not in pursuing this dream, I would sincerely appreciate it:
In 2005 I had gastric bypass surgery. I'm 6'3 and weigh 257 right now. I'm still loosing weight.
I'm able to run 2.5 miles in 20 minutes.
I can only do about 10 "real" pushups
I have no problem with the sit ups.
I wear corrective glasses.
I have no criminal history.
My credit is in good shape.
I have never been fired from a job.
I work out every day and I'm loosing weight and improving every day.
I have a Bachelor's degree and an MBA.
I worked as a paramedic/firefighter for 8 years. I'm currently employed in the IT industry.
I am married, and I have 4 children. My wife does not work.
My employer would pay my full time salary while on AD for the ARNG.
What do you think? Do I have a hope here?
I appreciate your insight.
