Do you go to MEPS and then immediately ship to BCT?

Do you go to MEPS and then immediately ship to BCT? I was thinking that I'd be going to MEPS in a couple of weeks and swearing in but then not shipping to BCT until February or March since a spot in the MOS I'm choosing isn't open until then. But I've read recently on the forum and it sounds like people are shipping directly from MEPS? Any clarification?

You'll go to meps several times. No, you won't ship to BCT immediately after swearing in.

So I'll go to MEPS the first time and swear in, and then go to MEPS again before I ship?

You go back to MEPS to ship to Bct or Ait. At least in MOST instances. There are always exceptions to everything. You go back, get a quick height/weight, urine, those type of things again. Then you hop on a bus (normally) and away you go to either an airport or a bus depot.

You have up to 360 days from first signing in to leaving for MEPS. For split op that amount of time may be different, I only know for going straight threw Bct to Ait. You can choose when you leave up to a point. There has to be an open slot at that time for you to go. But you can usually get within a few weeks of when you want. Summer surge is another story. You may have to wait until after summer to get within weeks of what you want. Some MOSs only offer a few schools a year also so that has to be taken into consideration also. But most have new classes starting up on a regular basis.
