What limitations, if any, are ARNG JAGs subject to in their private professional lives? Are they allowed to represent private parties in suits against the federal government? Are they allowed to represent private parties in suits against the state government? Finally, are they allowed to defend against the federal/state government in criminal type cases?
I'd heard that in some other branches, active duty JAGs were subject to some restrictions such as these. I wasn't sure how the rules might work with respect to ARNG JAGs, who obviously might spend a lot more time in private practice. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Dont know how many lawyers are on this site and dont know whether you are a law student or graduate but the way I see you; you are the best SME in this area. You have to do alot of research in your studies/casework; same applies here.

A Maine ARNG JAG is here, and could probably provide detailed info.

M-Day JAG officers can and do practice in all of the areas you described. Anyone on active duty, including AGRs, cannot have an outside practice without written permission from the Judge Advocate General. Let me know if you have any other questions.
