It depends on how many steps back you might take. <smile>
Just a rough estimate... but more than likely... approx. 5 years... if you went in as an E-1.
I worked for an E-6... who was an exception to the norm... he made SSG in 18 months... probably unheard of in this day & age.

E-1 to E-2 is 6 months from AIT completion. E-2 to E-3 is another 6 months, E-3 to E-4 6 months. Doing the math you could achieve E-5 SGT in 18 months from completion of AIT. Even E-6 is acheivable with in that period, however to get you E-7 (SFC) you must have 11 month time in grade as E-6 and 9 years Time in service before promotion.
