Well I have been waiting for 3 weeks now to find out if NGB was going to approve my waiver for being slightly Hypoglycemic, I just spoke to my recruiter and he said that the waiver was denied by NGB. My recruiter said that I should go to my Doctor and get a second opinion, but my question is , will it matter if the results come back different from what MEPS said? Can my waiver be denied a second time and will this permanently DQ me if I do have Hypoglycemia and get it under control? Any advice that can be offered will be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking that the doctors probably class 'slightly Hypoglycemic' in the same catagory as 'slightly pregnant'.

but remember the military's standpoint on this. you are going through intense training and your ailment has to be weighed against you getting real sick during BCT. I suggest you ask those other questions to your recruiter and your doctor. also ask your private doc for advice as well.

The only issue I have is that I have never had a problem with low blood sugar, have never had dizzy spells or any of the symptoms of Hypoglycemia. I dont take medication and I work out daily and run every morning. I live out here in Las Vegas where it gets 115 Degrees in the summer and regularly am doing activities outdoors. The only thing I can think of as to why the test came out the way it did, is that I was told that I had to fast for 16 hours before I took the blood test, well I had actually fasted for 18 hours and had not had anything to eat or drink for that time period, so when I took the test, my blood sugar probably would have been low because I was hungry as **** and slightly dehydrated. I still have some options though, I am checking into taking a MEDDAC Physical at the local Air Force Base and have also scheduled a visit to my Priamry Care Physician to have my sugar levels re-tested. By the way, I would not need to go to BCT because I am prior service, I would only need to go to AIT.

are you prior service from the Army or another branch? did you complete your service before or was medically discharge? I dont know why the military will accept you to serve before when you had this condition but cant now. I guess there are alot of unknowns in this case.

Prior Service U.S. Army, 82nd ABN, Honorably Discharged RE 1. I have never had any problem with blood sugar, no family history of Diabetes. This is the first time that I have ever been told that I am Hypoglycemic. I even had a complete blood work done about 1 1/2 ago and my blood work came back fine.

Correct, when the results of the labs came back, they said that I was slightly Hypoglycemic, but I think it was because I had not eaten in 18 hours because I was told that I needed to fast for 16 hours and I had not eaten or drank anything for the 18 hours that i did fast. JMO

when you said 1 1/2 ago was that a year ago? do you have medical insurance or utilize the VA? I will go to the VA and will get the work done there. That is a re****ble source :) Hey people have taken another AIDS test to find out that they were negative right? Also, call the recruiter again to get all of the retest facts.

Yes, It was a year and a half ago, right before I started my new job. I had to have a complete work up done. I do have medical insurance and have scheduled an appointment with my PC Physician as well to re-test my blood sugar and get a letter stating that my blood is fine if it comes back good. I am also looking into taking a MEDDAC Physical as well at either a local NG Med Unit or the Nellis Air Force Base.

Trust me, I'm not going down without one helluva fight. I plan on not only getting a second opinion, but a 3rd and a 4th opinion. I am fairly confident that I am not hypoglycemic.

From my understanding, you cannot diagnose someone hypoglycemic based of one reading. Anyone can get hypoglycemic when they haven't eaten for hours.
I agree, and my waiver was denied based on that one reading. Even when there is no history of hypoglycemia in any of my medical records. Like I said before, I am positive that the reason for the low blood sugar was the fact that I haden't eaten or drank anything in 18 hours, but it's not over yet.
