No you can not. The best you can do is complete IADT and after serving with you Gaurd unit for a period of time request a Conditional Release (DD Form 368) and go active. Different standards exist in differnet states and depends greatly on the state pending deployments. You can always volunteer to deploy with other units once you complete training.
Good luck

You will learn that the Guard is what you make it. You can be the classic M-day guy that does the one weekend, two weeks gig. Nothing wrong with that, thats what you signed up to do. If you want more there are ways in the Guard to keep you busy believe me. Request schools to go to, even small ones for a few days to ones that are for a few months. Work with your Orderly Room, and see if there is anything you can help with. Alot of times, if you got you game together, they wont have a problem putting you on ADSW orders for a few months. Check with training sites, they are always looking for help to do things. It might not be the job you want but its just for a few weeks and its active duty time. All of this gains you experience. My unit has alot of Guard Bums, guys that are in Army schools or voluntary deployments, ADSW, etc for half the year and their civilian jobs the other half. Its like having the best of both worlds. The NG offers alot of benefits and opportunities, but remember, YOUR Guard experience is what you make it. Good Luck

You could always volunteer for a deployment. And then go active afterwards.

That is also what my recruiter said. Go to boot then AIT then deploy for a year then I can roll over to active.

this is exactly want I want to do. BUT as soon as I get done with the GED plus program the NG is offering me. Dont get me wrong. It might seem like im " using " the NG to help me with my GED , but I really am not. I told myself I might as well do my schooling this way so I could gain experience in the military way. It sounds exciting and im willing to do it.
