Can anybody tell me for sure what is the maximum age to join. All of the info says 17 to 42, which means a 17 y/old can join and supposedly also a 42 y/old which is what I am, but then I was told that is too old. After finally thinking I had an opportunity to do my share, this has broken my heart.
Hopefully someone can tell me that somebody made an error when they said I could not join because of my age.

Irish ****,

From what I understand, it's 41 years and 364 days. And if I understand correctly, you have to ship to BCT before your 42nd.

I turned 42 today (Tuesday). I hadn't really thought about joining until just this past week, when the reality that this was my last opportunity dawned. I struggled with both positions greatly. I am not a supporter of a lot of what's going on in Iraq, and I thought that this would disuade me from considering service. A friend in the ANG put it a whole new way, that it's not about agreeing or disagreeing with the current leadership -- they are transitory -- it's about service. Most importantly, he stressed that the military needs relief, particularly the guys that are doing two and three tours. That's what really hit home. In a nutshell, why should only a few share the burden?

So I've been going crazy this past week, but like you, I erroneously believed that it was 42 years, not "before your 42nd birthday." But cheer up; with the current world situation and border security, it's likely they'll raise the max age again!:)

Thanks for the replies. I do have prior service, however that was in Ireland, not here. I believe p.s. in a friendly nation was considered at one point but I don't know about now. I am also a fireman and EMT with a local FD., which I had hoped would count towards something.
