Here is my situation:

I am getting married in OCT and planning on buying a new house in the next month or so. In addition to all of this, I want to join the Guard as Infantry. My biggest question is, should I do the Delayed Entry Program or wait until November when all of this is over?

If I do DEP, What all exactly does this involve? What are the benefits, if any?

Any help and comments appreciated..

My recruitertold me that once that your sworn in you can start to get paid for going to drills. All though you can't be deployed because you haven't gone to AIT. Hope that this helps and hope it is accurate in your home state. Just ask recruiter in your local state

well basicaly there is no DEP for the national guard. The day you swear in you are a memeber and start going to drills once a month before you even ship to basic

You have to ship to basic training within 360 days from your enlistment date, so you should have plenty of time handle things before you leave. While you are waiting to leave for basic, at least in Louisiana, you will receive our state tuition exmeption once again this is a Louisiana benifit it may be different in your state. Also, you will attend drill and get paid for attending. Benifits such as bonuses, gi bill, gi bill kicker and SLRP you will not receive untill you complete AIT(your job school). The best thing to do is find a recruiter from your state and he/she can tell you what you will recevie

Having never gone through any military training, what could they expect you to do at a drill weekend?

Would they Issue me uniforms & Military ID so I wouldnt just show up looking like a nobody?

Thanks for the info so far...:)
