Is it easier for officers to go to schools such as airborne, ranger, and air assault school, etc? I'm looking at branching into field artillery if that matters.

Bump.

Does this question make sense? Or is it unusal. My understanding was people in the combat arms branches usually have greater access to these schools. Is field artillery included in that?

Are you going via ROTC? If so, you'll get the opportunity to go to schools over the summer...but it's fairly competitive.

Don't know about FA, but for instance Inf. officers on completion of IOBC will most likely attend airborne and Ranger right there if they haven't...it just depends on your overall performance, the need for your unit and whether you're guard or active --- guard will get less slots than active, obviously.

I have just completed 7 weeks of BOLC 2.... (yawn)

I leave in a few days to attend BOLC 3, AKA Infantry Officer Basic Course. I already have orders for Ranger school as a follow on, and will attend ABN thereafter. Next year, I will attend AA and Pathfinder. So yes, it is entirely possible. As an Infantry support officer, I mean FA officer, your chances might not be as good, but they exist nonetheless..

I have recently learned there are only two branches:
1: Infantry
2: Infantry Support

Thank you very much for the response. I have not decided on any one branch as of yet. As of now I'm being attached to a field artillery unit in NY. They have a very good re****tion according to friends of mine in the guard.
Question: All of the schools you are going to as of now are they your choice to go to or are you just given orders to attend them?
