290A - Electronic Warfare Technician

Duties:

Plans, organizes, implements, monitors and evaluates operations and the threat environment.

Assists the Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) in preparing the Electronic Warfare appendix to the operations order.

Provides advice on technical and tactical employment of Joint EW systems, and integrates EW into the targeting process.

Monitors the development of the enemy EW order of battle (OB) and the processing of target information and intelligence generated by the OB section.

Assists in production and application of target selection standards.

Maintains and assists in developing the Electronic Warfare Staff Estimate.

Assists and coordinates with the Intelligence Warfare officer on Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) as it pertains to electronic warfare.

Develops EW input to Targeting Products and participates in targeting meetings.

Assists the EWO in the analysis of the relevant situation and predicts needs.

Is involved in the development and execution of EW policies and procedures for supported organizations.

Coordinates external EW support mission requirements and integrates EW operations into MDMP.

Performs other officer level duties essential to the mission of the assigned unit.

NOTE: With increasing joint operations, a greater pool of applicants from other military branch services (Navy, Air Force and Marines) exists. Those who can demonstrate their qualifications may apply for 290A. Other military branch services' applicants must come from a technical MOS with similar duties and skill set as outlined above. Applicants must demonstrate their qualifications through hard copies of document experience (e.g., awards, certificates and performance evaluation).

Minimum Prerequisites:

  • Be a SGT (E-5) or above (not waivered)
  • Feeder MOS for 290A: 13C, 13D, 13E, 13R, 14J, 15N, 15Q, 25C, 25E, 29E, 94M series MOS
  • Have four years of operational experience in an accession Electronic Warfare duty position MOS
  • Hold 1J or 1K ASI (additional skill identifier) training OR combat experience (OIF/OEF) as an electronic warfare specialist
  • Be a BNCOC graduate (all phases) or Advance Leadership Course (ALC) (waiver based upon documented leadership performance in OEF/OIF)
  • Must have minimum scores of 110 for all areas of EL, ST, FA and SC on the ASVAB
  • Have a minimum of two NCOERs that reflect outstanding and exceptional duty performance ratings in an Electronic Warfare duty position, with at least one NCOER reflecting one year of supervisory experience, but must submit copies of ALL NCOERs
  • Must complete the following correspondence courses on Doctrine Networked Education & Training (DOCNET): All Intelligence, Operations and Planning courses (https://ca.dtic.mil/doctrine/default.htm)
  • Must have completed six hours of math and science from an accredited postsecondary school or CLEP
  • Must have one year in a supervisory position documented by NCOER
  • Hold a SECRET clearance; must be eligibile for TOP Secret Clearance based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) for TS/SCI
  • Must have a written endorsement letter from a Signal, Signals Intelligence Military Intelligence or Field Artillery Senior Warrant Officer (CW3-CW5)
