The Active First option lets you begin your service with full-time military service—at full-time Soldier's pay.

You'll learn an exciting career and travel across the U.S. or overseas. When your Active Duty commitment is over, you'll return to part-time Guard service with your local unit. Live and work in your hometown, and receive a second paycheck for drilling and training in your community—while you pursue your degree or continue your civilian occupation—and continue to receive great Guard benefits.

It works like this:

  • Join the Guard and enter the Guard's Recruit Sustainment Program.
  • Pre-train for Basic Training and get paid for drill weekends.
  • Enter the Army for 36 months in one of 36 specialized jobs.
  • After processing, receive a bonus of up to $20,000.00, paid in yearly increments.
  • Following Active Duty service, transition into your local Guard unit.
  • Pursue your college degree with the Guard's extensive education benefits.
